The perfect gift for any nature lover, this beautiful bee box is everything you need to help save the bees!
Enjoy growing edible flowers, learning about native bees and experimenting in the kitchen too!
Bee box contains:
* 4 packets of No Harm Farm flower seeds that are loved by bees and other pollinators, specially selected to be easy to grow, reliable in the Irish climate and provide nectar and pollen for native bee species.
* Biodegradable seedling pots that make transplanting seedlings easy and hassle free
* Renewable birch wood markers for your seeds to remind you which is which! I've used pyrography to hand inscribe the names of the flowers onto the stick so they won't wash off when you water them! These lolly stick style markers can be stuck straight in the soil and remind you what's there.
*A beautiful blend of rainbow coloured edible dried flowers from No Harm Farm that you can use to make your own tea. Biodegradable tea filters included, get the kettle on!
*A sample sized vial of our pink flower salt in miniature glass bottle with cork, to brighten any dish and add floral flavours and colour.
*A digital download containing info on Irish bees, colouring pages , a bee spotting chart and a free kids activities pack. Code for the download is sent to you after purchasing. Easily printable PDF format makes this simple and straightforward to print out and use.
All these are sent to you (apart from Digital download!) in a biodegradable box. Products are protected with shredded tissue paper and dried flowers from the garden, making this a beautiful, thoughtful gift.
Did you know that gardening is good for our health? And that spending time outdoors benefits our wellbeing? Even without a garden, these flowers can be grown in a window box or similar, bringing the outdoors a bit closer to you. When the flowers grow, you can leave some for the bees to enjoy and use some yourself!
- For adults the PDF contains beautiful bee illustrations, a bee spotting chart and even information on how to become a citizen scientist and upload your data to the biodiversity database!
- Involve the kids or grandkids with the free downloadable kids pack which contains activities, colouring pages and a little info on Irish bees. Compare bumblees to honeybees, learn about basic bee anatomy or just colour in the simple illustrations.
Flower seeds conatined in the pack are:
Borage: A well known plant with edible leaves and flowers. Try mixing the flowers into a salad, or using the leaves in a jug of water to drink. They have a cool, refreshing cucumber taste and brighten up any glass. Flowers are super for bees and provide nectar even in wet weather.
Calendula: A much loved edible and medicinal plant also known as "pot Marigold. Balms are often made with Calendula to soothe the skin, and the cheery orange and yellow flowers last well into the autumn. Also edible.
Red Clover: Very resiliant, great in hanging baskets or borders, loved by bees and also a popular edible and medicinal plant. Traditionally drunk as a tea for menopause symptoms, mood enhancement and general wellbeing.
Viper's Bugloss: This one is just for the bees! Although parts of the plant are edible and have been used medicinally for centuries, we don't recommend eating it in regularly or in large quantities as it's not generally considered safe. A native Irish plant that attracts many pollinators incuding bees and butterflies, Vipers bugloss is a biennial, meaning it completes it's life cycle over two years. Unlike the other plants here, Viper's Bugloss will form rosettes in the first year and flower in the second year.
More information on the seeds and how to care for them is available on the sheet that will be sent to you in the box, and also in the prinatble PDF.
Within the edible dried flower mix:
We know waiting for flowers to grow can require patience, so we've included some ready to use edible flowers too! A rainbow coloured mix of Calendula, Cornflower, Mallow, Rose and Hibiscus that can be used in baking, cocktails, teas and crafts.
To use as a tea: You'll find some ready to use, biodegradable tea filters in your bee box. They are in a reusable burlap drawstring pouch. Simply fill one with the edible flower mix and steep in freshly boiled water for 5 minutes. You'll have floral, fragrant and refreshing tea.
Added bonus: Keep the small canvas bag and use again for storing small items of jewellry or trinkets.
