ABOUT US

Who We Are

No Harm Farm is situated on the beautiful Loophead peninsula on the west coast of county Clare.

We delight in creating a little magic, and specialise in our unique Black garlic, which we craft in our "Olfactory" kitchen here on the farm.

We also grow elephant garlic and other speciality varieties, as well as offering fresh produce at our honesty box.

We're on a big mission.. to prove that micro farming without harming and biodiverse market gardening can be worthwhile for people and for the environment.

No Harm Farms means:

*No herbicides, pesticides or artificial fertilisers

*Actively encouraging native species and promoting biodiversity

*Crafting exceptional artisan products for everybody to enjoy

We grow healthy, nutrient rich plants as food and medicine using practices that are environmentally focused and aim to benefit and enhance surrounding biodiversity.

In order to run a successful micro farm or market garden on a tiny plot while respecting the environment and enhancing the environment around us, we have the following aims:

  • To grow high yield crops in as small a space as possible, choosing varieties that do best in our climate and require minimal interventions

  • To work with the plants, soil and conditions we have here on Loophead, favouring native local species and encouraging local flora and fauna

  • To continue learning and building links with the communities around us

  • To encourage a culture of trust by operating an "honesty system" of selling our homegrown produce

Even though our plot is tiny in size, we have dedicated about 70% of it to enhancing biodiversity and protecting the existing biodiversity of the site.  This means our areas for cultivating crops are very small indeed, but with the use of vertical planting, intercropping and a combination of quick turn around and high value crops, we are still able to make this tiny space work for us.

And even within that intensively farmed space, we aim to continue enhancing biodiversity by avoiding all pesticides and herbicides, planting pollinator friendly companion plants and creating micro habitats for wildlife within our system of growing.

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY

Some of our produce isn't sold for profit but instead offered at our honesty shop at the farm.  It's a simple honesty box system where we place any seasonal produce at the roadside and you can pull up and take what you need, leaving behind a small donation.

To find out where we are visit our contact page and you'll see us on the map.
